Jurasic Coast Cycle Holiday

Sunday 28May I started my Dorset cycle holiday with my dad leaving Barkingside via the Central Line making our way to Waterloo to take the South West train service to Weymouth. We had a nice relaxing journey to Weymouth watching some films and chilling. At Weymouth we met our holiday representative Roy who took us to our hotel and explained to dad how the cycle holiday would work. We would be away for 5 nights and in between we would cycle around 80 miles around the beautiful Dorset coast and countryside to 3 other towns. After checking into our hotel we made our way out to Weymouth to the pier, Sandworld and Bowleaze Cove.

The next day we collected our bikes and started our first cycling trip to Dorchester via Abbotsbury. Unfortunately within a short time of starting it unexpectedly started to rain heavily and very quickly we were both soaked. We sheltered in a pub and tried to dry off a but we were both soaked to the skin and remained wet through despite our best efforts. We continued our cycle through Abbotsbury up a huge hill to Hardy’s monument before a nice descent to Dorchester and our next hotel. In the evening we went to Pizza Express where I had my usual favourite dish.

On Tuesday we cycled from Dorchester first stopping at a lovely tea room in Moreton before continuing to Durdle Door. I was pretty whacked out before we arrived here but the sea air and stunning views perked me up. We then cycled to our next hotel which was a pub in Wareham. I was very tired after cycling 30 tough miles today so we ate in the pub and I retired early to my room.

On Wednesday we had a rest day from cycling so we caught the train to nearby Poole. Once there we had lunch then took a nice boat trip around beautiful Poole Harbour. In the afternoon we met up with my mum, nan and dog Barney who had drove down to join us for the last two days. Later as it was such a glorious evening we all jumped in the car for a short drive to the beach and walked along the promenade to Bournemouth Pier and then had dinner in the town.

Thursday was our final day of cycling and we travelled from Wareham to Poole via Corfe Castle and Studland Bay. I really liked the model village at Corfe. It was a very hot day so we took our time cycling on to Studland Bay which was very busy due to the nice weather. We then made our way to the chain ferry which took us over to Sandbanks and cycled the short distance to our final hotel. Later we met up again with mum, nan and Barney again and had a nice fish and chip meal together. On Friday we all travelled back in the car after spending another fun morning in Poole.

I enjoyed my cycle holiday a lot, it was hard but I had a great time seeing lots of places I liked. Some of the hills were tough but I am proud to have finished each day and got to the end. Below are lots of pictures from my holiday, if you like my blog please leave a brief comment if you can as I like to read these.
